Guardamar del Segura gets its name from the location it sits. The town is positioned next to the mouth of the river Segura and it is often regarded as the Guardian of the river. The town has a population of over 15,000 people and is a prime tourist spot during the summer as it sits beside a lovely sandy beach of the Mediterranean.
Around the area of Guardamar del Segura there is also Campomar a small village on the coast with a beach. There is also the residential area of El Raso, here there are a few restaurants at the entrance to the area. Further past Campomar there is also the town of El Moncayo, this is very similar to El Rayo as it is more of an urban area. Overall these areas would have a population of between 30,000 – 40,000 people.

Guardamar is located of the Mediterranean as because of this, the area has so much to offer in terms of natural beauty. One of the greatest features of this town is the beaches that the town sits upon. They are made up of lovely sand dunes with pine woods in the backdrop. There are also two different parks in which you can take a nice cycle around or a nice relaxing walk. Around the natural habitats you will find beautiful spots where you can see beautiful plants and birds.
If you have a boat Guardamar has a marina in which you can moor. Here there is a lovely environment with top facilities that also allows you to take part in some water sports. Looking over the Mediterranean is the Castillo de Guardamar, a great tourist spot with a park and a choice of restaurants.
Campomar has a wide range of activities to get involved in. In the nearby town of Torrevieja there are two museums, the Museo del Mar y de la Sal (Sea & salt museum) and the Museos Flotantes (The floating museum). This museum is a submarine, so a must see in our books.
Around the area of Guardamar and Campomar there are many restaurants and many bars for that nice relaxing drink. Three are many different types of restaurants including Italian, Spanish and Seafood just to name a few. Almost in the centre of Guardamar there is an Irish bar called the Shamrock.
You can also take part in many water sports around this area. Some of the activities include sailing, diving, canoeing and Jet-skiing. There is also a sports centre in the town that offers many different pitches for different sports as well as an Olympic size swimming pool. Golf course are never far away also, with many in an hour drive of the area. Throughout the towns there are many different types of shops. There is a few supermarkets and some shopping centres around the area and a few more if you want to head out to the nearby city of Torrevieja.

Throughout the town of Guardamar there are many hospitals, including public hospitals, university hospitals and pet hospitals. There are also several medical centres throughout the town as well. In the nearby city of Torrevieja there is also more hospitals and medical centre, so you are never far from some medical assistance. The town of Campomar does not have any type of hospitals or medical centres although it is a 10 minutes’ drive away from the town of Guardamar. There are also several police stations located nearby in the towns of Guardamar and within the city of Torrevieja.
Guardamar also offers a number of different schools. Most are public schools and secondary’s. There is also language and music schools located nearby. There is also an academy within the town of Guardamar and many University facilities in nearby towns and cities. There is also a flight school located nearby.
Climate
The climate around this area is almost the exact same climate you will encounter while in the cities of Alicante and Torrevieja. The climate is very Mediterranean like, with this area experiencing over 250-300 days of sunshine every year. The average all year temperature is just below 20 degrees, with a nice sea wind breeze coming in from the Mediterranean, to cool you of every so often. This is an all year destination.
The warmest months start from around may time and will last to September and in some cases October. The coolest months are the winter months of December, January and February. October is also the wettest month on average, which Is no surprise as this is the time in which the days start to get a bit cooler.
